Botox to reduce excessive underarm sweating (Hyperhidrosis) in Leamington Spa

Botox® for Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) in Leamington Spa

One of the lesser known uses for Botox® (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is its ability to prevent excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis) when injected into the respective areas of the body - most commonly the underarm area or palms of the hands. Although it has been officially approved by the FDA as a treatment to reduce sweating, it's not widely available on the NHS in the UK.

Using Botox to treat excessive sweating at Leamington Facial Aesthetics

Using Botox to prevent sweating is a simple, non-invasive procedure that involves treating the problematic area with a series of injections to relax the sweat glands and reduce excessive perspiration.

The treatment is highly effective and will reduce sweating by around 90%, meaning you can refrain from having to use a sticky antiperspirant and go back to regular body sprays, and most importantly, you'll be able to relax in your favourite shirt on a hot summers day, not to mention attend that stressful job interview without having to worry about an unsightly patch of sweat appearing on your clothing.

How long does a Botox sweat reduction treatment last?

In the same way as when used to reduce wrinkles, Botox is not a permanent cure for sweating; however, when used for this purpose, particularly with the underarm area, the effects generally last considerably longer than when used for cosmetic purposes.

"The initial treatment will begin to take effect within 4 to 7 days, and most clients benefit for around 6 to 9 months before perspiration gradually returns to its regular level, at which point you'll know it's time to return for another treatment."

Will underarm injections be painful?

"While the underarm area is quite sensitive, my clients report that the injections are only mildly uncomfortable; however, treating the hands and feet can be a little more painful. That said, the needle is very fine and the injections for Hyperhidrosis are only superficial, and I always use the best anaesthetic creams to ensure pain will be minimal."

Can Botox treat head and facial sweating?

The head, neck, scalp, face and forehead area can all be treated to reduce perspiration too; however great care must be taken when treating the facial area.

"It should be pointed out that while the Botox injections I use to prevent sweating are very superficial compared to those used for cosmetic reasons, some muscle relaxing can, and often does still occur. For this reason, great care must be taken when injecting the face and forehead when the sole aim is to reduce sweating alone."

So does this mean a wrinkle reduction treatment will prevent sweating too?

"Yes, as a somewhat pleasant side effect, when Botox is used to remove wrinkles sweating will often be reduced in the treated area too." - Rosie

What areas can be treated?
Whilst the underarm area is the most common, I can also treat the forehead, scalp, feet and palms of the hand.

I can also treat the face area too; however, it should be pointed out that whilst the injections for Hyperhidrosis are more superficial than those used for cosmetic reasons, some muscle relaxing can still occur. For this reason, great care must be taken when injecting the facial area when the sole aim is to prevent sweating.

Prices vary from person to person depending on the area being treated and will be provided upon consultation.
